Fired Worker, Home Burglary: Elmhurst Cops

An officer is asked to be on hand for a terminated employee collecting his last check, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a fired worker, a home burglary, a domestic disturbance, converter thefts, retail theft, a custody dispute and a car burglary, among other incidents. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Fired worker

  • An officer was asked to be present about 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Elmhurst Party Rentals, 650 W. Grand Ave., while a recently fired employee picked up his final check. The person was given a no-trespass notice.

  • A resident in the 300 block of Van Buren Street told police that someone entered the house and removed a laptop, checks and other items between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday. A check was later discovered to have been written. An investigation is pending.

Domestic disturbance

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 1 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of North Clara Place. A woman said she got into an argument with a man. Officers saw no indications of injuries. Both parties agreed to separate for the evening.

Converter thefts

  • A catalytic converter was stolen between July 19 and July 27 from a work van at Allied Universal, 435 W. Fullerton Ave.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Thursday from a car in the employee parking lot at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. The hospital has become a target of converter thieves.

Window shattered

  • The passenger side window of a locked car was shattered between 12:15 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday in the parking deck at 149 N. Addison Ave. The suspect opened the car's center console. Nothing appeared to be missing.

Damage

  • Graffiti was found about 7:30 a.m. Sunday on the top level of the parking deck at 149 N. Addison Ave. Broken glass was discovered on the sixth level. The public works department was notified.

Retail theft

  • Two suspects stole a number of vacuum cleaners and other merchandise between 8:20 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. One of the suspects was described as a 30- to 40-year-old white woman. No description was made available for the other suspect. An investigation is pending.

Missing person found

  • A missing endangered person had been last seen leaving a residence in Addison. The person was found at 5 p.m. Thursday on Fellows Court. The person did not need any police assistance or medical treatment.

Fall

  • A man was walking through a parking lot when he tripped and struck the pavement about 10 a.m. Saturday at 145 E. First St. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Car burglary

  • A gym bag and a wallet were stolen from a car about 4 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Addison Avenue. Fraudulent charges were later discovered from a credit card in the stolen wallet. The suspect was described as a woman wearing a blue sweatshirt with the hood up, black leggings, black gym shoes and a white surgical mask.

Custody dispute

  • A resident in the 900 block of Chatham Avenue told police Saturday that he was to have custody of his child for the weekend. Without notification, he told police, the suspect took the child on vacation. The suspect said she notified the man of the trip and that they have switched visitation weekends many times in the past.

Bicycle theft

  • About 1 p.m. Saturday, a man secured his bicycle to the bike rack at the train depot at 128 W. First St. Upon returning about a day later, the man found that his bike was missing.

Broken eggs

  • Several broken eggs were found about 9 p.m. Friday along the front of a house in the 600 block of Mary Court.

DUI

  • A person was suspected of DUI about 12:30 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of North Pine Street. The person came into contact with police as the result of a well-being check. Charges are pending.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 300 block of Huntington Lane told police Thursday that someone attempted to open a credit card account using her personal information.
