Fitness Fight, Explicit Pics: Elmhurst Cops

A person threatened another over the use of a machine at a gym, police were told.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a fitness center dispute, explicit photos, school burglaries, retail theft, a stolen vehicle, a job scam and a chronic nuisance. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Fitness center dispute

  • A man told police that another person threatened him over the use of the leg workout machine about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at FFC fitness center, 140 N. Addison Ave. The other person denied making a threat.

  • A resident on Elm Creek Drive told police Wednesday that he sent explicit photos to someone purporting to be a woman on Instagram. The stranger then threatened to share the images if the resident did not give money. The resident then sent money through Venmo and a photo of a gift card.

School burglaries

  • Various rooms were vandalized over the weekend at Conrad Fischer Elementary School, 888 N. Wilson St., and Churchville Middle School, 155 Victory Parkway. The damage took place between 2 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 a.m. Monday at Fischer and 2 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Monday at Churchville. An investigation is pending.

Retail theft

  • A man asked to buy two packs of cigarettes about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at 7-Eleven, 572 S. York St. As the clerk turned to retrieve a lighter, the man grabbed the cigarettes and a candy bar and ran away. An investigation is pending. The man was described as black, 50, and wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
  • Two men stole merchandise about 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive.

Stolen vehicle

  • An Acqua Contractors vehicle was stolen between 6 p.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. Friday at Bad Boys Truck and Trailer Repair, 915 S. Riverside Drive. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Harwood Heights. An investigation is pending.

Car burglaries

  • Police responded to a complaint about people pulling on car door handles about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of Oak Lawn Avenue. An officer found a car in a driveway with the passenger door ajar. The owner said someone entered her unlocked car. She was unsure whether anything had been stolen. Around the same time, police were called about two people entering unlocked cars in the 600 block of West Gladys Avenue. Nothing was reported missing.
  • Sunglasses were stolen about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday from an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 400 block of Highview Avenue.

Job scam

  • A resident in the 400 block of East Park Avenue was using LinkedIn to find a job when someone offered her a job. The resident completed a tax form with her Social Security number and sent it to the suspect. The suspect sent the resident a fraudulent check, which she did not cash.

Chronic nuisance

  • A chronic nuisance warning was issued Tuesday to a household in the 900 block of South Cedar Avenue.

Trespassing

  • A woman who lives on Hawthorne Avenue told police Wednesday her ex-husband showed up at her house and wanted to talk to their son. She told him to get off her property. The ex-husband left a note on her car asking to have their son call him. They were divorced in 2012, and the ex-husband last saw their son six years ago. The victim requested the man be served with a no-trespass notice.
