Fraud At Eatery, Burglary: Elmhurst Cops

A man defrauded a local restaurant, police said. They gave his description.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving fraud at an eatery, burglary, obstruction of identification, a stolen bicycle and trespassing. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Fraud

  • A man used a fraudulent credit card to buy food about 8 p.m. Jan. 27 at Hunan Place Chinese Restaurant, 583 N. York St. The incident was reported 10 days later. The man was described as white or Hispanic, heavier set, and wearing gray sweatpants, black shoes and a black hoodie.

Burglary

  • A resident in the 300 block of East Ridge Avenue told police that someone entered her house between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. No signs of forced entry could be found. The resident said she believed all doors were secure. Nothing appeared to be missing, but several items were out of place. The incident was listed as burglary.

Obstructing identification

  • Darius Mann, 30, of Oakbrook Terrace, was cited about 11:30 a.m. Monday at Villa Avenue and Thomas Street on charges of obstructing identification, driving with a revoked license, driving an uninsured vehicle and speeding. Police said he gave a false name. He was released on bond.

  • Erica Brash, 48, of Glen Ellyn, was arrested about 4 a.m. Wednesday at Wilder Park, 211 S. Prospect Ave., on a DuPage County Sheriff's Office warrant. Police approached her because of a call about a suspicious vehicle. She was unable to post the required bond, so she was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 200 block of West St. Charles Road told police Tuesday that someone tried to use her late husband's personal information to open a Capital One credit card.
  • A resident in the 100 block of Chandler Avenue told police Tuesday that someone withdrew money from his U.S. Bank account. An investigation is pending.

Stolen bicycle

  • A girls Nishiki Pueblo mountain bicycle was stolen between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday from the bike racks at Wilder Park. The bike was unsecured.

Trespassing

  • A man was seen leaving a rental property through the garage about 7 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Ida Lane. The landlord said no one was supposed to be on the property and wished to sign a complaint for criminal trespassing. The man was described as black, 20 years old, and wearing a black hat and jacket.
