Get ready for Halloween with ‘Pumpkins in the Parks’
Families can decorate their own pumpkins at their neighborhood park in the month of October
Bensenville, Ill.— The Bensenville Park District is getting in the Halloween spirit by bringing pumpkin decorating to neighborhood parks. Pumpkins in the Parks will take place from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, October 11-14, at various parks located throughout Bensenville.
“Pumpkins in the Parks is a new program that brings a fun Halloween tradition to our neighborhood parks,” says Recreation Supervisor Breana Aponte. “Participants can express themselves by painting and carving their pumpkins and can take them home to use as holiday decorations.”
In addition to decorating pumpkins and showing off their creations, those participating in the program will learn about the history of Halloween and the use of autumn vegetables to ward off wayward spirits. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather, as the activity takes place outside.

The first Pumpkins in the Park takes place at Fischer Farm, 16W680 Grand Avenue, on Tuesday, Oct. 11. On Wednesday, Oct. 12, it will be held at Sunrise Park, Memorial Street at Marion Street. Thursday’s event takes place at Breiter-Palm Park, on Church Road, Just south of Memorial Drive. The final Pumpkins in the Park event will take place Friday, Oct. 14, at Sunset Park, located on Grove Street between Judson and Barron Streets.
The fee is $10 for residents ($13 for non-residents) and covers pumpkins, and all supplies. Register in advance at the Deer Grove Leisure Center, 1000 W. Wood Street, Bensenville. Call (630) 766-7015 for more information or to register by phone.
