GreenMan Theatre Holds Auditions For 'The Diary Of Anne Frank'

Auditions will be held Aug. 12 starting at 2 p.m. and Aug. 13 and 14 starting at 7 p.m.

ELMHURST, IL – The GreenMan Theatre will hold auditions in August for the award winning play, “The Diary of Anne Frank.” According to the theatre, auditions will be held Aug. 12 starting at 2 p.m. and Aug. 13 and 14 starting at 7 p.m. The production will run Sept. 28 through Oct. 14.

"The Diary of Anne Frank" tells the true story of two Jewish families in Amsterdam, hiding from the Nazis during World War Two, the theatre said in a release. Anne's diary was saved by one of the Frank family's helpers, and is now one of the most widely read books ever and has been translated into over 70 languages. The play, by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, has been newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman.

Auditions will be held at GreenMan’s performance space at 232 S. York St. in Elmhurst. Actors interested in auditioning should request an audition appointment time on one of the audition dates by emailing gmttauditions@gmail.com. According to the theatre, auditions will consist of cold readings from the script with other actors. Callbacks, if needed, will be scheduled for Aug. 16. There is no pay.

GreenMan’s artistic director, David Soria, will direct GreenMan’s production.

"The Diary of Anne Frank” is the first production of the 15th season. There are roles for five women and eight men. The theatre said three of the characters are in their teens during the action of the play, Anne, her sister Margot, and Peter Van Daan. Actors under the age of 18 who wish to audition will require the permission of a parent or guardian. Three of the men's roles are small and will require minimal rehearsal.
