Gun Discovery, DUI Crash: Elmhurst Cops
A woman found a gun while cleaning a house that had been sold, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a gun discovery, a DUI crash, retail theft, disorderly conduct, a flag theft, fraud and a dog bite. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Gun found
- On Monday, a woman was hired to clean a house that was recently sold in the 400 block of North Berteau Avenue. While cleaning, the woman came across a Glock 26 9mm gun with 11 rounds and one spent shell. The gun was placed into evidence.
DUI crash

- A 53-year-old Oakbrook Terrace man was arrested about 11 p.m. Monday in the 800 block of South Bryan on charges of DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was taken to the police station and then released.
Retail theft
- A 26-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jewel, 944 S. York St., on charges of retail theft, no valid driver's license and driving an uninsured car. He was released.
Disorderly conduct

- A 29-year-old Naperville man was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at Clarion Inn, 933 S. Riverside Drive, on charges of disorderly conduct and theft. Police said they responded to a customer dispute, with two people chest to chest yelling at each other. The 29-year-old man is accused of stealing a pound cake from the hotel. He was released and served a no-trespass notice.
Suspicious
- A person saw someone walk up a resident's driveway and pull on a car handle about 8:30 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of North Highland Avenue. The suspect then entered the backyard before leaving. The homeowner was contacted and said no one should have been at the house.
Flag theft
- Someone stole an American flag between March 22 and April 1 at a house in the 200 block of West Elm Park Avenue.
Trespassing
- Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, told police Monday that a man had been stealing items in the hospital's café and acting aggressively with staff. He was served a no-trespass notice and told he would be cited if he returned.
Fraud
- Elmhurst Extended Care Center, a nursing home at 200 E. Lake St., told police Wednesday that a person fraudulently signed for three prescription bottles. An investigation is pending.
- A man paid for service to his car with a stolen credit card March 15 at Elmhurst Auto Clinic, 153 N. Addison Ave. The incident was reported Monday.
Dog bite
- A man said that while walking his dog, a dog got out of a yard and bit the man's dog in the neck about 5:30 p.m. March 19 in the 100 block of South Fairview Avenue. The man filed the report Monday, nearly two weeks after the incident.
Drug overdose
- A man told police his co-worker passed out while driving east on Interstate 290 about 10 a.m. Tuesday. The driver was not breathing, his face was blue, and his pupils were pinpoint and constricted. The officer administered a dose of Narcan, which treats drug overdoses. The driver started breathing. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
Civil dispute
- A subcontractor for Super Ego Holding, 677 N. Larch Ave., told police Tuesday that the trucking firm was unable to pay him at this time. Police told the parties it was a civil issue.
Violation of order of protection
- A woman in the 500 block of Spring Road told police Tuesday that her ex-boyfriend had been calling her. She said she had an order of protection against the man. His calls violate that order. An officer was unsuccessful in trying to contact the man.
Domestic
- An argument turned physical about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jiffy Lube, 339 N. York St. A person punched a woman on her side. The suspect denied doing so. No arrests were made because of conflicting statements and no visible injuries. It was labeled a domestic investigation.
