Gun Joke, Distracting Pair: Elmhurst Cops
A man's joke about a gun at an Elmhurst public place was not well received, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a joke about a gun, a distract-and-steal scheme, underage drinking, damage to a museum, fraud and domestic battery. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Gun joke
- A man approached a woman and told her he was carrying a gun about 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. An officer spoke with the man, who said he was joking and did not own a gun. He was given a no-trespass notice.
Distract and steal

- A man and a woman distracted a customer about 5 p.m. Saturday at Whole Foods, 215 S. Route 83, and stole her wallet from her purse. The suspects then tried to use the victim's credit card several times unsuccessfully. The resident notified her bank and canceled her credit cards.
Museum damage
- Someone used spray paint to damage the canvas outside the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave. It occurred between 5 p.m. Wednesday and 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
Fraud

- A man used fraudulent information to buy three cars from Al Piemonte Buick, 264 W. Grand Ave. The incidents were Sept. 2, Oct. 17 and Oct. 21. The fraud was reported Thursday. An investigation is pending.
Underage drinking
- A 20-year-old Evanston man was cited about 1 a.m. Saturday at Fitz's Pub, 172 N. Addison Ave., on a charge of false use of an identification. Police said they were called about a disturbance at the bar. The man was released.
- A 22-year-old Addison man, a 19-year-old Addison woman and a 19-year-old Bensenville man were cited shortly before noon Saturday at Berens Park, 493 N. Oaklawn Ave., on alcohol-related charges. They were released.
Broken window
- The passenger side window of a Parkdale Construction work van was shattered about 3 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of North Elm Avenue. Nothing appeared to be stolen. An investigation is pending.
Scam
- A resident in the 500 block of South Swain told police Friday that a woman called her and said she was from a pharmacy. The caller asked for the resident's Medicare number, which the resident provided. The resident grew suspicious when a man got on the phone and hung up. The resident told Medicare about the incident and canceled her credit cards.
Hit in head
- A resident in the 100 block of Fellows Court told police that a suspect hit him in the head while he was loading their child into the car about 8 p.m. Friday. The suspect left before officers arrived. An investigation is pending. The incident was labeled domestic battery.
Suspicious person
- After hearing a suspicious noise, a resident in the 600 block of West Crockett Avenue saw a stranger standing next to his car in the driveway about 11 p.m. Saturday. Upon confronting the suspect, the person sped away in a dark car. An investigation is pending.
