Gun Missing, Crosses Pulled Again: Elmhurst Cops
A man forgot that he left a silver handgun in his rental car, police said. Now, he can't find it.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a forgotten gun, removed crosses, threatening messages, a chronic nuisance and a burglary. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Forgotten gun
- A man told police Monday that he returned his rental car to Avis, 890 N. York St., and forgot that he left his silver handgun in a combination case under the passenger seat. The man contacted Avis, which reported it had not found the gun.
Crosses removed

- Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 426 N. West Ave., told police that several crosses were removed between 1:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday from the church's front lawn. On Sunday, 1,000 crosses were pulled out. The display is to signify the church's pro-life position on abortion.
Threatening messages
- A resident in the 600 block of South Spring Road told police Monday that someone had been sending threatening messages. The resident tried to block the suspect, who then showed up at the resident's work and damaged the resident's car. An officer was unable to contact the suspect.

- Police issued a chronic nuisance warning Tuesday to a household in the 100 block of West Third Street.
Burglary
- Someone entered an unlocked shed and stole a woman's bicycle between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of South Cedar Avenue. The suspect left a different bicycle outside the shed.
