Gun Theft, Car Burglary: Elmhurst Cops
A gun was stolen from a glove compartment at an Elmhurst dealership, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a stolen gun, a car burglary, check fraud, a medical incident, a woman sleeping in a car, harassing emails and a scam, among other incidents. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Stolen gun
- The owner of a car told police that a gun was stolen from his glove compartment between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday while it was being serviced at Larry Roesch Chrysler Dodge Jeep, 200 W. Grand Ave. An investigation is pending.

- Someone entered a locked car and stole three credit cards from a woman's wallet between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday at Sky Zone Trampoline Park, 325 W. Lake St. The victim discovered a fraudulent purchase. She notified her bank and canceled the credit cards.
Suspicious
- A woman told police that her husband saw a man walking around their son's car about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of East South Street. He then got into his red car and drove away. No damage was done. The man was described as about 20 years old, having a stocky build, and wearing glasses and his hood up. The incident was reported two days later.

- Wing-Hamlin Co., 568 S. Spring Road Unit C, told police Thursday that several checks had somehow been intercepted, altered and fraudulently deposited before the vendors received them. The fraud occurred between Oct. 4 and Oct. 14.
Medical incident
- A man was shopping about noon Thursday at Kohl's when he suffered a medical incident. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
Bike found
- Police were called about an abandoned bicycle found shortly after noon Thursday near St. Charles Road and Berkley Avenue. It is a 21-speed, silver and light blue Mongoose Element mountain bike. It was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
Sleeping in car
- Officers checked on a woman's well-being about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of North Emroy. She was inside a locked car, saying she was sleeping there after an argument with another household member. She refused medical treatment.
Custody dispute
- A resident in the 400 block of East Butterfield Road told police Friday that his ex-wife violated their allocation of parental responsibility after she had taken their daughter on a business trip and was unable to exchange custody.
Scams
- A resident in the 1100 block of Eldridge Lane told police Friday that she received a message from someone showing interest in buying a sofa she posted for sale online. The suspect attempted to persuade the woman that he had sent her money and requested she send it back. The woman said she would contact her bank to try to resolve the issue. The suspect also made threatening statements.
- A resident on Oak Tree Court told police Sunday he received a notice on his computer to call a person purporting to be with Microsoft. The person advised the resident to transfer money to an outside account. The resident transferred the money and allowed the stranger remote access to his computer. The resident notified the bank of the issue.
Harassing emails
- A resident in the 200 block of East Vallette Street told police Friday that a suspect had sent her several harassing emails. The victim said she was representing a client in a divorce with the suspect. An investigation is pending.
Retail theft
- A man and a woman filled a multi-colored shopping bag with liquor and then stole it about 6:30 a.m. Saturday at Jewel, 944 S. York St. The man was described as 35, balding, having an average build and a beard, and wearing black running pants with light-colored stripes down the sides and black gym shoes. The woman was described as 35, having a heavy build and dark hair in a ponytail, and wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt, a pink T-shirt and black and white pants. They left in a gray Chevrolet sedan, heading south on York Street.
Sidewalk fall
- A woman fell while she was walking on the sidewalk about 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of South York Street. She refused medical treatment.
Extinguisher stolen
- A fire extinguisher was stolen about 11 a.m. Saturday in the northwest corner of the top level of the city's parking deck at 149 Addison Ave.
Domestic disturbance
- Police responded to a domestic disturbance shortly after midnight Sunday in the 100 block of East Lake Street. Both parties agreed to separate for the night.
