Harassment, Package Theft: Elmhurst Cops

A resident reports being harassed on social media, prompting an officer to speak with the suspect, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving harassment, theft, a suspicious letter, a gift card scam and trespassing. Here is information from the latest police reports:

Harassment

  • A resident in the 300 block of South Mitchell Avenue told police Monday that a suspect had been harassing him on social media. An officer spoke with the suspect and advised him to cease all communication with the suspect.

  • Packages were stolen between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Aug. 6 from the package room in The Marke of Elmhurst apartment building, 100 N. Addison Ave. Video footage showed a woman entering the room and placing several packages into a dark luggage bag. The woman then left the building pulling an orange wagon with the luggage bag. The woman was described as wearing a dark long-sleeve pullover, dark pants, black and white gym shoes, dark gloves, a blue surgical mask and a dark baseball cap with a white logo. No other information was given about her description.

Suspicious letter

  • A resident in the 200 block of North Willow Road told police Monday about receiving a suspicious letter from a stranger. The stranger made no threats. The resident requested the incident be documented.

Gift card scam

  • A resident on Elm Creek Drive told police Monday that he received a phone call from someone who claimed to be able to boost the resident's credit score with the purchase of gift cards. The resident complied and provided the suspect with the gift card numbers. Virtually any transaction involving the purchase of gift cards is a scam.

Trespassing

  • A person has made multiple attempts to visit a patient at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 Brush Hill Road. The patient is not supposed to have visitors. The suspect was given a no-trespass notice Wednesday.

Fugitive driver

  • An officer tried to stop a Dodge Charger about 10:30 a.m. Monday at North and Berteau. The Charger was reported stolen. The driver sped away, last seen heading north on Route 83 from North.
