Here's How Many D-205 Students Have Been Quarantined
Few in quarantine have tested positive for the coronavirus, official says.
ELMHURST, IL — More than half of Elmhurst School District 205's students have been quarantined at some point this school year, a top official says.
At this week's school board meeting, interim Superintendent Linda Yonke reported that 4,700 students have had to quarantine this year and of those, only 13 have tested positive for the coronavirus.
"We've had a slight uptick in cases since students came back April 13, but it's not significant," Yonke told the board.

Last school year, the district's enrollment was nearly 8,600, according to the Illinois Report Card.
To date, the total number of District 205 students and employees who have tested positive for the coronavirus are 527 and 120, respectively, according to the district's website. But the overwhelming majority of them were not diagnosed while in quarantine.

Under health guidelines, people in quarantine were in close contact with those with the coronavirus. Those who are kept in isolation have the virus.
As of May 3, 458 students and 14 staff were in quarantine, according to the district's website.
The district saw a 90 percent drop in coronavirus cases among employees after vaccinations were made available to them, Yonke said. "And those cases have only been among a few staff who were not vaccinated," she said.
