Here's How Much Snow Has Fallen In Elmhurst In Last Month

A "cruel joke" is played on city during cold weather, the mayor says.

ELMHURST, IL — A total of 38 inches of snow — in other words, more than 3 feet — have dropped in Elmhurst over the last month, officials said Tuesday.

At a City Council meeting, Mayor Steve Morley thanked public works employees for their response to the snowstorms, which are the worst in five years. He also said public works has had to deal with the "cruel joke that God plays on us during these cold snaps" with water main breaks.

"Our public works people fix them in zero degree weather," the mayor said. "I would ask folks to keep an eye on their neighbors. We have been fortunate that we haven't had any major power outages."

City Manager Jim Grabowski agreed with Morley, saying it's been busy for the city's public works staff.

"I think the streets look great," he said.
