Here's How New Elmhurst School Is Coming Along
A district official comments on whether the school will open in August as planned.

ELMHURST, IL — The new Lincoln Elementary School is "really starting to take shape now," an official told the school board last week.
Todd Schmidt, the district's building and grounds director, said the project is "right on schedule," set to open in August as planned.
"Actually, with everything, it's all buttoned up right now," Schmidt said. "We have temporary heating in the building right now. We started to do some drywalling, sheetrock on the second floor. It's coming together really, really well."

Schmidt said the project experienced "a couple of blips" with underground storage tanks, but the crews ended up experiencing no real problem.
"It really looks pretty cool right now," Schmidt said. "It's exciting to see it come together."

The new building will have about the same amount of space as the old one, according to the district.
In June, the project began with the demolition of the old Lincoln school at 565 Fairfield Ave., which was built in 1916. It is the only Elmhurst elementary school completely surrounded by houses.
The project includes two webcams, which can be accessed through the school district's website. The project is being paid for as part of Elmhurst School District 205's $168 million in voter-approved bonds.
The school district is also expected to replace Field Elementary School, starting next summer.
