Jars Of Marijuana Surface In Elmhurst House: Police

In other cases, valuables go missing at Elmhurst fitness centers, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving jars of marijuana, gym thefts, a kidnapping scam, a burglary and fugitive drivers. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Marijuana found

  • A resident in the 800 block of South Bryan Street told police that while looking for Halloween decorations on Oct. 6, she found two jars containing what appeared to be marijuana. Police put the jars into evidence.

  • A man said his wallet went missing between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Oct. 6 while at LA Fitness, 620 N. York St. He received a notification from his bank that someone tried to make several fraudulent charges. An investigation is pending.
  • A driver's license, credit cards and clothes were stolen from a secured locker between 8:20 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Thursday at FFC Elmhurst health club, 140 N. Addison Ave.

Fake kidnapping

  • A resident in the 300 block of North York Street told police Oct. 7 that a man called her to say he had kidnapped her daughter and wanted money. Schaumburg police found the daughter safe. Authorities determined the call was a financial scam.

  • Halloween displays were damaged about 3 a.m. Oct. 7 in the 200 block of East Third Street.

Scams

  • A resident in the 300 block of West Hillside Avenue told police Oct. 8 that a person posing as a Chase Bank employee informed her that she had been the victim of fraud. She provided him with her personal information so that he could supposedly order her a replacement credit card.
  • A person at Elmhurst University, 190 S. Prospect Ave., told police Friday she was scammed on Instagram after giving her information to a stranger. Several deposits were made to her bank account, but they were all pending and eventually removed from her account. The victim is not out any money and will change her bank account information.

Burglary

  • A home was burglarized about 5 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of North Addison Avenue. Boxes of tea, books, comforters and cleaning supplies were stolen.

Fugitive drivers

  • Elmhurst police were told about the driver of a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee who fled from Bloomingdale officers. The suspect car was seen about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at Interstate 290 and North Avenue. An Elmhurst officer launched a tracking device onto the car and tried to stop the driver, who sped away.
  • An Elmhurst officer saw a stolen gray Acura about 2 a.m. Sunday at Interstate 290 and North Avenue. The driver sped away before the officer attempted a traffic stop.

Unconscious person

  • Police were called about an unconscious person about 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of North York Street. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Threats

  • A resident in the 100 block of East Van Buren Street received threatening phone calls and text messages from a stranger Sunday.
