Lombard Woman Wins $1 Million Lottery Prize

VILLA PARK, IL — A Lombard woman recently won $1 million while shopping in a Villa Park Jewel. Lombard resident Beth Zirbes was grocery shopping when she scratched an Illinois Lottery $300,000,000 Cash Spectacular ticket and instantly won $1 million, the Illinois Lottery said in a release.

“I was shocked! It’s seems crazy that you can become a millionaire while walking around the grocery store!” Zirbes said.

Zirbes bought her $1 million winning ticket out of the self-service lottery machine at Jewel-Osco, 33 E. St. Charles Road, in Villa Park. When she realized how much she won, she immediately signed the back of her ticket.

According to Illinois Lottery, she opted to receive her $1 million prize as a one-time payment of $600,000. Her plans for the money include paying off her two daughters’ student loans and investing.

“And I’ll probably spend a little more on Christmas gifts this year,” Zirbes added in a release.

Jewel-Osco received a bonus of $10,000, equal to one percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.

$300,000,000 Cash Spectacular is a $10 instant ticket that offers $300,000,000 in prizes. Of the 35 top prizes of $1 million available to be won, eight have not been claimed.
