Man Arrested In Elmhurst Car Burglary: Police

He was arrested later when officers in another suburb responded to a traffic crash, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst officers handled cases involving burglary, fraud, battery, a fugitive driver, a customer dispute and DUI. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Burglary

  • Joshua Williams, 20, of Chicago, was arrested Wednesday on charges of burglary and aggravated possession of a stolen vehicle. Police said he shattered a rear driver's side window and stole a person's backpack about 5 a.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. About three hours later, Riverdale police apprehended Williams while responding to a traffic crash. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • Someone burglarized a locked car between 10 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of East Elmhurst Avenue. Someone went through the owner's belongings. Nothing was reported stolen or damaged.

Fraud

  • Classic Cinemas York Theatre told police that someone used fraudulent currency to buy tickets about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Battery

  • A battery investigation is taking place in connection with an incident about 10 p.m. Nov. 14 at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. Police were notified Monday.

Fugitive driver

  • Officers identified a Ford Econoline van linked to a Villa Park burglary about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at Roosevelt Road and Interstate 290. The officers tried to stop the driver, who then sped away east on I-290. An investigation is pending.

Customer dispute

  • Police responded to a customer dispute about 10 p.m. Tuesday at 7-Eleven, 572 S. York St. The customer was found to be drunk and was asked to leave by an employee. Because of similar incidents before, the person was given a no-trespass notice.

DUI

  • A 75-year-old Bensenville woman was arrested Tuesday on charges of DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage. Police said her offense was about 9:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at York Street and Grand Avenue. She was released.
