Man Fires Shots In Villa Park Neighborhood: Police

The bullets struck an occupied car and a house, but no one was hurt, authorities said.

VILLA PARK, IL – A Chicago man fired a gun late Tuesday night in a Villa Park neighborhood, police said.

Jacorey Hughes, 22, was charged with three felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Officers were called shortly after 11:30 p.m. to Kolberg Court and Oakland Avenue, according to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors.

Hughes was walking south on Oakland when he fired a handgun multiple times, striking an occupied car and a nearby house, police said.

He fled and threw an object into a bush. Shortly after, Oakbrook Terrace officers arrested him in a parking lot in the 300 block of East Roosevelt Road, prosecutors said.

Police said they recovered multiple bullets from the outside walls of the house and a bullet from the car. They also said they found a Ruger 9mm handgun in the bush.

"Thankfully, no one in the home nor the individual that was in the vehicle that was struck by gunfire were injured or killed as a result of Mr. Hughes' alleged violent actions," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Elmhurst, Lombard and Oakbrook Terrace police helped with the investigation.
