Man Found Not Guilty In Elmhurst Death

The man's lawyer argued his client acted in self-defense in a bar brawl.

ELMHURST, IL – A man accused of killing another man in an Elmhurst bar brawl was found not guilty last week.

Ronald Dunbar, 57, of Lombard, was arrested in the death of Karl Bomba, 28, of Yorkville. Bomba was fatally stabbed in the early evening of April 10, 2021, at Spring Inn bar, 552 S. Spring Road.

Prosecutors said Dunbar stabbed Bomba once in the chest with a pocketknife.

Dunbar's attorney said the stabbing was done in self-defense.

After a trial last week, DuPage County Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh found Dunbar not guilty.

In a statement, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said his office's decision to file first-degree murder charges against Dunbar was in good faith.

"I respect Judge O’Hallaren Walsh’s decision in this case," Berlin said. "This was a challenging case from the beginning."
