OAK BROOK, IL – A man who repeatedly sexually assaulted an Oak Brook hotel employee in a vacant room was sentenced last week to 88 years in prison, authorities said.

In 2021, a jury found Julius Ramsey, 41, formerly of Chicago, guilty after a three-day trial. He was convicted of aggravated sexual assault with a firearm, kidnapping with a firearm and criminal sexual abuse.

In the late morning of Sept. 9, 2019, Ramsey forced the woman at gunpoint into the vacant room and sexually assaulted her several times. He put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her.

The woman escaped and reported the assault to police. She was immediately taken to a hospital, authorities said.

A DNA sample from Ramsey was later confirmed to be a match with DNA evidence collected from the victim.

Ramsey voluntarily went to the Oak Brook police station three days after the assault, police said.

He was then arrested and has been in the DuPage County Jail ever since without bond.

In a statement, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said the woman's testimony was largely responsible for putting Ramsey behind bars.

"Mister Ramsey’s moral depravity was on full display as he repeatedly sexually assaulted an innocent woman," Berlin said. "I cannot imagine the fear and terror experienced by the victim not just from the repeated assaults, but also from having a gun pointed at her head threatening her life."

He continued, "As she continues her long road to recovery, I sincerely hope that knowing the man responsible for this terrible chapter in her life will never again be allowed to walk free will help this innocent survivor of sexual assault heal the intense psychological damage Mr. Ramsey inflicted upon her."
