Man Guilty In Elmhurst Dealership Arson: Prosecutors

The man was accused of pouring gasoline on a car and setting it on fire.

ELMHURST, IL – A DuPage County jury on Thursday found an Addison man guilty of setting fire to a car last year at an Elmhurst dealership, prosecutors said.

Dario Salas, 41, was convicted of two felony arson counts. The jury deliberated for 2½ hours.

Early in the morning of April 13, 2022, officers found a black Audi on fire at Elmhurst BMW. They discovered that Salas had poured gasoline on the car and set it on fire, prosecutors said. He was arrested less than two hours later in Addison.

“Yesterday afternoon, a jury found Mr. Salas guilty of intentionally setting fire to an Audi, totally destroying the vehicle, causing severe damage to two nearby vehicles and endangering the dealership as well surrounding businesses,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. "Thankfully, the Elmhurst Fire Department was able to contain the fire and minimize damage to the dealership."

Salas has remained in the DuPage County Jail since his arrest.
