BENSENVILLE, IL – A Chicago man has been charged in a Bensenville crash that resulted in a woman's death, Bensenville police said.

About 3:30 a.m. Friday, 22-year-old Armando Salkic was speeding on York Road when he ran a red light at Irving Park Road and crashed into the woman's car, police said. The woman, who was on her way to work, was pronounced dead at the crash site, authorities said.

Salkic was taken to an area hospital and was released Tuesday. His blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit 2½ hours after the crash, police said.

Salkic was charged with two counts of aggravated DUI involving death. His bond was set at $1 million, 10 percent of which must be paid for release.

"Once again, an innocent life has been tragically lost to an alleged drunk driver," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. "Not only is drinking and driving dangerous, reckless and selfish, it too often turns fatal, as is alleged in this case. The truth is, this tragedy could have been avoided had Mr. Salkic simply called a cab, a ride-sharing service or a friend for a ride instead of thinking he was fine to drive."
