Man Punches Pregnant Girlfriend At Oak Brook Theater: Cops

OAK BROOK, IL – A Chicago man punched his pregnant girlfriend at the Oak Brook movie theater before speeding away from officers, authorities said.

Daveon Taylor, 22, was taken to the DuPage County Jail, where a judge ordered him to stay locked up until his trial, police said.

About 10 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to a domestic disturbance at AMC Theatres, which is at 600 Oakbrook Center.

According to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors, Taylor became upset and punched his girlfriend in the face. He, his girlfriend and a friend then went to the theater's lobby. Next, Taylor hit the friend with a cardboard sign and smashed the friend's phone to the ground, police said.

Taylor then took his girlfriend's phone and fled, prosecutors said.

Officers who saw Taylor ordered him to stop, but he refused and sped away in his car, brushing up his car against an officer's leg, police said. The officer was reported to be doing fine.

Taylor then hit an Oak Brook squad car before running two stop lights, according to prosecutors.

About a half hour later, Wheaton officers found Taylor's car and stopped him at Roosevelt and Lambert roads.

“I find it disgusting that this individual allegedly struck his pregnant girlfriend in the face and then cowardly fled the scene, striking a squad car while he attempted to avoid the consequences for his actions,” Oak Brook Police Chief Brian Strockis said in the news release.

Taylor was charged with the felonies of aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated battery to a pregnant woman, criminal damage to government property and aggravated fleeing and eluding, police said.
