Man Steals Woman's Phone At Elmhurst University: Cops

He met with her about what he described as a profitable bitcoin investment, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – A man meeting with a woman about a bitcoin investment stole her phone and ran away Wednesday at Elmhurst University, police said.

The man contacted her and convinced her to send money for the investment, saying there was a profit ready to be picked up, police said.

He met about 8 p.m. and committed the crime, police said. An investigation is pending.

The man was described as black, 24 years old but appearing younger, about 6 feet tall, skinny, having short hair and a medium complexion, and wearing a gray hoodie, black jeans, red Jordan shoes and wearing a diamond stud-like earring in the right ear.

In a case the day before at the university, a person told police Tuesday that he received a check from what he thought was a future employer. After cashing the check, he received messages requesting to send back a portion of the money, police said.

He realized it was a scam and did not send any money.
