More than 50 artists join in Elmhurst art exhibition
Artist reception on Friday, April 15th at 7 pm
More than 50 Chicago-area artists, all members of the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild, are exhibiting their latest creations in the Guild’s Spring Member Show in the EAG Gallery from April 10 through May 20. The gallery is located at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst.
An opening reception, free and open to the public, is scheduled in the gallery, on Friday, April 15, from 7 to 9 pm. The entries to the show display greatly varying styles, form and media, from realistic to abstract and beyond. Judging the show’s entries is performed by an outside Chicago-area artist or gallery owner. Prizes are awarded during the reception.
For the member shows, each member can enter one piece not previously shown in the EAG gallery. Among those being exhibited is Eve Ozer’s “Raven's Journey,” a mixed-media piece on cradle board. She says that ravens have been appearing in her abstract paintings for several month, and this one is her most ambitious representation. She uses a mixture of brushes, sticks and paint pours.

Mey-Mey Lim has entered "Storks & Red Flanked Duiker," which is porcelain with Celadon glaze, about 7.5 x 6 x 4 inches in size. “In the summer I visited Brookfield zoo,” she recalls, “and saw a pair of storks in their nest. A red-flanked duiker, a small type of antelope, was prancing in the grass near them. One of the storks watched the duiker while it guarded its nest . This porcelain sculpture captures that scene.”
Moving to the abstract, Cynthia Lee is showing her very dark, oil and cold wax on wood panel entitled “Attraction,” which, she says, explores the space between. She is fascinated by the dynamics and energies that exist between one point in time and space and another, between one person and another.

The exhibition can be viewed during regular Museum hours, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm. The first Friday of each month is the Museum’s free admission day. At other times, admission for adults is $8 and for seniors $7. EAM and Guild members, students and children under 18 are admitted free.
Most of the items entered into the show are for sale, and a portion of the proceeds benefits the Guild and the Elmhurst Art Museum.
The EAG gallery is not-for-profit, operated by the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild. It features original contemporary artworks in a variety of styles and media. In addition to four member shows each year, the guild hosts exhibitions of individual member’s artwork and invitational shows for significant local artists. Exhibits are partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council. More information is available at elmhurstartistsguild.org,
