More Mail Thefts Reported In Elmhurst

This happened after police arrested a mail carrier in connection with the theft of checks.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police gave more information Tuesday on the route of the mail carrier who was arrested last week in connection with the theft of 113 checks.

After the announcement of the arrest, police received four reports of thefts of checks from victims in a southwestern Elmhurst neighborhood.

Another case involving a ring stolen in the mail happened about 10 blocks east of the others.

Keevon Dockery, 22, of Chicago, was charged with five counts of identity theft and one count of aggravated identity theft. All charges are felonies.

In an email to Patch, city spokeswoman Kassondra Schref said Dockery worked in a southside neighborhood bounded by Prairie Path Lane, Prospect Avenue, Wilson Street and Fairfield Avenue.

However, she said, he worked different routes around town dating back to mid-September. She said most of the reported victims are in south Elmhurst, but a few also live in the north part of town.

Residents who believe they are missing a check or financial document are asked to email detectives@elmhurst.org.

Here is information from the latest reports:

  • A resident in the 700 block of South Parkside Avenue told police someone changed the payee, amount and signature on a check that she had written and mailed Oct. 25.
  • A resident in the 500 block of Saylor Avenue told police Thursday that he received an email stating his tax refund check was mailed, but he never received it. He notified the state comptroller's office, which said it would cancel the check and issue a new one.
  • A resident in the 500 block of South Swain Avenue told police Thursday that four separate checks were mailed to her home, but were never received. The thefts were believed to have happened from Sept. 30 to Oct. 17. An investigation is pending.
  • A resident in the 600 block of South Sunnyside Avenue told police Thursday about a check that was sent to him through the mail that never arrived. The theft was believed to have occurred Nov. 1. An investigation is pending.
  • A resident in the 400 block of South Parkview Avenue told police Friday that she ordered six rings from a seller and that she only received five of them shipped by mail. The theft was thought to have occurred Oct. 27.
