Museum Fire, Protest: Elmhurst Cops

A fire was put out Thursday in the Elmhurst Art Museum, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a fire, a demonstration, a fall, a bicycle theft and an employee's theft of money. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Fire

  • An officer responded to a fire alarm about 1 p.m. Thursday at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave. The officer noticed smoke throughout the building and a strong burning odor. The fire was put out. An investigation is pending.

  • Elmhurst police helped Oakbrook Terrace police with a demonstration blocking the street about 7 a.m. Thursday in front of the Oakbrook Terrace police station on Butterfield Road. Police did not say what the protest was about.

Fall

  • A woman fell off the curb and injured her hip about 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of South Spring Road. This was while the St. Patrick's Day parade on Spring Road was happening. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Bicycle theft

  • An unlocked black Schwinn men's mountain bicycle was left about 1:30 p.m. Saturday near an electrical box at Spring Road and Illinois Prairie Path. When the owner returned an hour later, the bike was gone.

Theft

  • A & L Express Corp., 489 W. Fullerton Ave., told police Saturday that an employee had been stealing money from the company for three years. An investigation is pending.
