Nearly 10,000 Elmhurst Residents Still Without Power as of Monday Morning

Elmhurst Public Library, Elmhurst College and Park District facilities closed due to continued outages.

The City of Elmhurst has released an update on the progress being made on storm cleanup and power outages.

As of 9 a.m., 9,900 customers in Elmhurst still are without power, according to representatives from the city. That's down from a total of 12,000 in the wake of Sunday's storm. Tree limbs still are pulling on power lines, and crews have been working around the clock.

The city announced that full restoration of Elmhurst customers will take two to three days. Customers, if they haven't already done so, should report their outage directly to ComEd by calling (800) 334-7661.

The city also is advising residents to use caution when operating a generator.

  • Do not operate indoors or near openings to any building that is occupied.
  • Make sure to use heavy-duty extension cords that are designed for outdoor use and that are long enough to allow the generator to be placed far enough away from windows, doors and vents.
  • Keep it dry and do not use in rain or wet conditions.

Brush Pickup

To report a fallen tree or hanging limb, call (630) 530-3000 during business hours, or (630) 530-3050 after 5 p.m.

The city, along with crews from Allied/Republic Waste, have begun clearing debris from parkways. They anticipate cleanup will take three to four weeks.

Residents should place all branches and brush that has been damaged from the storm on the parkway for pickup. Do not allow debris to get into the street, as this can cause flooding and become a safety hazard.

Residents are encouraged to clear inlets near their homes to minimize flooding in the event of more storms.
