Neighbor Scam, Dog Bite: Elmhurst Cops
A scammer posing as a neighbor targeted a resident with a gift card scam.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving a gift card scam, a dog bite, retail theft, threats, porch piracy and disorderly conduct. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Gift card scam
- A resident in the 1000 block of South Euclid Avenue told police Thursday that she received an email from her neighbor requesting a gift card. The resident then sent a gift card to the provided email address. The resident then spoke with her neighbor and learned the initial email was fraudulent.
Dog bite

- A woman told police that a border collie-English shepherd mix lunged at her right thigh and bit her right forearm while she was walking about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of North Addison Avenue. An animal bite report was sent to DuPage County Animal Services.
Retail theft
- A man stole merchandise shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday at Goodwill Store, 675 W. North Ave. An investigation is pending. The man was described as white, 40 to 50, and wearing a black baseball cap, gray shoes, a black coat and a white-collared shirt.
- A man and a woman stole merchandise about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. The theft was reported more than two weeks later.
- A man and a woman stole athletic clothing about 6 p.m. Friday at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. The man was described as black, 40 to 50, 6-foot-2, thin, having a goatee and wearing a blue jacket with white sleeves. The woman was described as Hispanic, 30 to 40, 5-foot-6, having a medium build and wearing a black shirt.
Threats

- A former employee threatened employees about 5:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at Double Good, 837 S. Riverside Drive. The incident was reported a week later. The business wanted it documented.
- A man became upset and threatened someone about 6:30 p.m. Thursday at T-Mobile, 361 S. Route 83. The store asked that the man be served with a no-trespass notice. The man was described as Hispanic, 5-foot-5, having a medium build, and having three tattoos on the side of his neck.
Theft
- A person told police Thursday that her violin was stolen Oct. 7 at Elmhurst University, 190 S. Prospect Ave. She wanted the incident documented.
Fugitive driver
- Police tried to stop the driver of a green car about 9 p.m. Thursday at York Street and North Avenue. But the driver sped away, last seen heading east on North Avenue.
Porch piracy
- Two packages were stolen about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday from the front porch of a house in the 200 block of North Illinois Street. Security footage shows the suspects getting into a light-colored sedan and heading west on Third Street.
Drunk
- A person was found drunk and lying on the sidewalk about 1 a.m. Saturday near Park and Cottage Hills avenues. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
Disorderly
- A person threw a pen, yelled and swore at an employee Friday at CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave. The person returned the next day and refused to leave until police were called. Officers later found the person, who was given a no-trespass notice at CVS.
Fall
- A woman stumbled while walking and fell face down, causing a cut to her lower lip about 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of South York Street. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
