Neighbor Suspected In Elmhurst Porch Piracy: Cops

Amazon sent a resident photos of her delivered package, but something looked off, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving porch piracy, a warrant, a person crawling around, threats to workers and theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Porch piracy

  • A resident in the 300 block of South West Avenue told police Monday that she received a notification from Amazon that her package had been delivered. Amazon provided photos of the delivered package. The resident thought the door looked familiar, but the Disney-themed doormat was not hers. She found the apartment with the same doormat and left a message with the neighbor, who never responded. An officer spoke with the neighbor, who denied ever receiving any packages. An investigation is pending.

Warrant

  • An officer was flagged down by a man who hoped to get a ride home. Upon running the man's information, the officer discovered that Villa Park police had issued a warrant for him. The man was released to the custody of Villa Park police.

Crawling around

  • Officers responded about 6 a.m. Tuesday to the 1100 block of Euclid Avenue. A person was crawling around hallways and pounding on doors. The person was found to have low blood sugar. The person was taken to the hospital.

Workers threatened

  • A person at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, threatened employees about 9 a.m. Tuesday. The person was found near the hospital and taken to the hospital in Hinsdale.

Identity theft

  • A resident who works for a management company told police Thursday that the firm mailed a check for services rendered. The resident, who lives in the 200 block of East Butterfield Road, never received the check. It was deposited using a forged signature. An investigation is pending.

Theft

  • Scotty's Detail Center, 199 W. Diversey Ave., informed police Wednesday that someone cashed a business check. A representative of the business said the check was still in his possession and never used by his business. He said he was not aware of how or where the check was deposited.
