New theatre camps announced for July 10-14!

​Theatre director & popular teacher, Helen Knudsen, partners with Elmhurst Children's Theatre for week of new & exclusive theatre classes.

Theatre director and popular teacher, Helen Knudsen, returns to hometown Elmhurst to direct one week of exclusive theatre classes in partnership with Elmhurst Children's Theatre.

Classes will be held in ECT's brand new rehearsal space at 121 W 1st Street in Elmhurst (formerly known as the Pink Elephant Resale shop) located directly across from the Elmhurst Metra station. Classes are open to children and teenagers from Elmhurst and neighboring suburbs.

Nailing the Audition and Callback: For incoming 5th-8th grade, 9:30-12:30
In this five-day acting crash-course, students will focus on their technique, be given specially curated monologues to use for their next audition, and learn how to stand out in both the audition and callback. This class is all about building confidence, finding your strengths, and shining onstage even when the nerves hit.


Actor’s Bootcamp in the Round: For incoming 9th-10th grade, 1:45-4:45
A never-before-offered ECT class focused on acting techniques and audition skills exclusively for grades 9-10. In this five-day intensive, actors will deep-dive into new and exciting characters, be challenged by advanced texts and techniques, and learn how to story-tell to an immersed audience “in the round.” Finish the week with a showcase of skills learned, and a new determination going into the high school’s audition season.

Helen Knudsen, an Elmhurst native and York Drama alum, began her career as a director at the young age of 14, when she founded Hatbox Theatrix (formerly DIY Teen Theatre) as a summer theatre option for Elmhurst youth. Since then, she has performed and directed on stages in Chicago, Cape Cod, the United Kingdom and at the popular annual Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She currently lives in the UK, where, as well as continuing her acting/singing career, she directs acting majors at University of Coventry-Scarborough and teaches grade-school students at the prestigious Rugby School. She continues to teach Elmhurst students via her Zoom studio.
