Nude Photos, Dealer Disturbance: Elmhurst cops

A resident was the victim of extortion on a social media app, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving nude photos, a dealership disturbance, a heroin overdose, a cigarette theft, a dog bite, a diner who dashed and a police chase, among other incidents. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Nude photos

  • A resident reported extortion Tuesday after he sent nude photos to a female on Wink, a social media app. The female threatened to send the photos to the resident's followers and friends if he did not give her money. The resident sent money to the female.

  • A woman entered Al Piemonte Buick, 364 W. Grand, at 4 p.m. Wednesday and got into an argument with her ex-boyfriend, an employee. She was previously given a no-trespassing notice for the dealership. Police contacted the woman, who said she would go to the police station to be issued a citation for trespassing.

Heroin overdose

  • A man was found in the woods about 7 p.m. Thurday near Route 83 and St. Charles Road. He was suffering from an apparent heroin overdose. He was given two doses of Narcan, a nasal spray that treats overdoses. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital by a Villa Park ambulance. He had a DuPage County warrant, so he was taken to the DuPage County Jail afterward.

Cigarette theft

  • A man stole a carton of Newport cigarettes about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at Shell gas station, 654 W. North Ave. The man walked away. Officers could not find him. The man was described as white and wearing a black face mask, a black hat with the word "Chicago," and a white and black camouflage shirt and pants.

Gift card scam

  • A resident in the 900 block of South Swain was contacted Friday via email by a person claiming to be an acquaintance. The person asked the resident to buy Google Play gift cards and supply card information. The resident bought the gift cards and emailed the information to the suspect. When the suspect asked for more money, the resident became suspicious and cut off contact.

Check fraud

  • A resident in the 600 block of South Cambridge mailed a check to the dentist on Dec. 12. On Dec. 23, the resident's bank reported that the check had been cashed for a much larger amount. It was made payable to a stranger. Police were informed of the incident Monday.

Dog bite

  • A man told police that he was bitten by an unattended dog when he delivered food to a house on Maple Tree Court about 7 p.m. Monday. The dog owner was contacted and was unaware of the incident. Medics examined the victim. A bite report was sent to DuPage County Animal Services.

Police chase

  • Shortly before midnight Monday, Elmhurst officers spotted a driver who had earlier fled from officers in Broadview. The local officers conducted a traffic stop. The suspect stopped before getting out of the car and then running away. Officers caught him and found two guns on him. The suspect was released to Broadview police.

Vape pen citations

  • A student at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, was found in possession of a vape pen Tuesday. The youth was cited, and a parent was contacted.
  • A female student at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, was found to have a vape pen Tuesday after authorities received a tip that she was selling vape devices with or without THC. She was cited and released to a parent.

Car burglary

  • A man told police that someone entered his unlocked truck between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday at Jewel, 944 S. York. The suspect broke the ignition, making the truck undriveable.

Dine and dash

  • HB Jones, 551 S. York, told police that a customer left the restaurant without paying for his meal. It happened at 7 p.m. Tuesday. An investigation is pending.

Fraud

  • A resident in the 400 block of Evergreen Avenue told police that someone used her personal information to open a fraudulent checking account Jan. 21. The resident did not lose any money. She closed the account and contacted credit bureaus.

Threatening texts

  • A woman in the 700 block of South Spring Road told police Wednesday that her ex-boyfriend sent her threatening text messages. An officer contacted the suspect and told him to cut off communications with the woman.

Driving violations

  • Mario Zullo, 51, of Elmhurst, was cited about 8 p.m. Tuesday at Concord and Old York on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and no seat belt. He was released on bond.

Warrant

  • Cordai Hamilton, 30, of Chicago, was arrested about 7 p.m. Wednesday on a DuPage County warrant. He was released on bond.

Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and people charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
