Nuisances, Broken Windows: Elmhurst Cops

Officers investigate nuisances at houses on two streets, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving chronic nuisances, broken windows, retail theft, a DUI, suspicious vehicles and harassing calls. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Nuisance investigations

  • Police pursued chronic nuisance investigations Tuesday at houses in the 100 block of West Madison Street and the 700 block of North Emroy Avenue.

  • Windows on a number of cars were broken about 5 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of West Third Street. A window of an apartment building was also damaged. An investigation is pending.

Retail theft

  • Charles Ryan, 51, and Kelvin Greenfield, 56, both of Chicago, were cited about 6 p.m. Monday at Jewel, 944 S. York St., on a charge of retail theft. Greenfield faced an additional charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. They were taken to the DuPage County Jail.

DUI

  • Jose Castillo Ontiveros, 28, of Itasca, was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of North Emroy Avenue on charges of aggravated DUI, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving an uninsured car. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Warrant

  • William Beamon, 26, of Palatine, was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at York Street and Butterfield Road on a Will County Sheriff's Office warrant. He was released on bond.

Suspicious vehicles

  • An officer saw a Ford F150 pickup truck speeding about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday near York and Lake streets. It was discovered the car was stolen in Des Plaines. The officer tried to stop the car, but the driver sped east on Interstate 290.
  • Police received a call about a suspicious car about 3 p.m. Tuesday near Fair and South. Two suspects abandoned a silver Buick LaCrosse. It was discovered that Franklin Park police wanted someone associated with the car for fleeing officers. Elmhurst officers were unable to find the suspects.

Check fraud

  • Glenrock Co., 200 W. Wrightwood Ave., told police Wednesday that someone intercepted two checks that were mailed to vendors. The checks were altered and then cashed. An investigation is pending.

Converter theft

  • A catalytic converter was stolen from a car between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St. An investigation is pending.

Harassing calls

  • A resident in the 600 block of West Gladys Avenue told police Wednesday that she was receiving phone calls and strange voicemails from an unknown number. The suspect was identified and told not to call the resident anymore.
