Nuisances, Ring Found: Elmhurst Cops

Police issued nuisance warnings to two houses in town, according to reports.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving nuisance warnings, a found ring, a DUI, a bicycle theft, threatening messages, a stolen bottle of pills and a suspicious package, among other incidents. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Nuisance warnings

  • Chronic nuisance warnings were issued Wednesday to two houses, one in the 500 block of Crockett Avenue and the other in the 600 block of Fay Avenue.

  • A yellow metal ring with clear stones was found about 8:30 p.m. Monday in the Jewel parking lot, 944 S. York St. It was turned into the police station, where it was placed into evidence for safekeeping.

DUI

  • Heliodoro Gutierrez, 53, of Berwyn, was arrested about 3 a.m. Thursday at Highview and North on a warrant and charges of DUI and improper lane usage. He was released on bond.

Bicycle theft

  • A yellow Giant Escape bicycle was stolen between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Friday while it was locked in the bicycle rack near the east side of the Prairie Path at Spring Road. The theft was reported Monday.

Converter thefts

  • A man stole a catalytic converter from a white 2009 Toyota Prius between 4:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. Sunday in a parking lot in the 200 block of North York Street. He was described as black and wearing a ski mask and a dark jacket with stripes down the arms.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen between 4 p.m. Sunday and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday from a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. Another converter was stolen between 6 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the hospital.

Threatening messages

  • A woman told police Monday that she has been receiving threatening text messages since July 8. The matter was referred to the detective division.

Stolen medication

  • An employee at The Grove nursing home, 127 W. Diversey Ave., told police that someone stole her Adderall medication bottle containing 60 pills on Friday or Saturday. The bottle was in her backpack in the medication room at The Grove.

Trespassing

  • Three youths entered Conrad Fischer Elementary School, 888 N. Wilson St., through a window about 8 p.m. Monday. They left on bicycles when they were discovered. An investigation is pending.

Suspicious package

  • A resident in the 400 block of North Adele Street told police that she found a North Face backpack near an unopened Amazon package about 3 p.m. Monday. An officer tried to contact the owner of the package, but was unsuccessful. The items were placed into evidence for safekeeping.

Fugitive driver

  • An officer tried to stop a white Ford Escape about 1 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of West Lake Street. The driver sped away, last seen headed east on Interstate 290. Schaumburg police indicated the car was used in connection with the theft of a catalytic converter.

Cable cut

  • Someone cut a Comcast cable to a house about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Oaklawn Avenue.

Fall on crosswalk

  • A man fell on a crosswalk about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cottage Hill Avenue and St. Charles Road. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Obstructing identification

  • Manuel Hernandez, 28, of Mount Prospect, was cited about 1:30 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of South Route 83 on a charge of obstructing identification. He was released on bond.

Warrants

  • Willie Strong, 25, of Glendale Heights, was arrested about 7 p.m. Tuesday at First and Highland on a Whiteside County Sheriff's Office warrant. He was released on bond.
  • Jamaul Loggins, 39, of Henderson, was arrested shortly before midnight Tuesday at St. Charles and Route 83 on a Cook County Sheriff's Office warrant. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. During the same stop, Ola Bounds, 34, of Villa Park, was cited on charges of driving with a suspended license and improper lighting.
  • Masri Mikaro, 27, of Schaumburg, was arrested about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of West Grand on a Streamwood Police Department warrant. He was released on bond.
  • Julian Pena, 20, of Addison, was arrested about 11 p.m. Wednesday at Church and Grand on a DuPage County Sheriff's Office warrant and charges of no valid driver's license and driving with one headlight. He was released on bond.

Driving violations

  • Austin Hegler, 29, of Plainfield, was cited about 9 a.m. Tuesday at Adams and Spring on charges of driving with a suspended license, driving an uninsured vehicle and disobeying a stop sign. He was released on bond.
  • Brianna Narbaiz, 21, of Hanover Park, was cited at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grand and County Line on charges of no valid driver's license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving an uninsured vehicle. She was released on bond.
