Oak Brook, Westchester Fire Depts. earn Elmhurst Hospital "Run of the Month" award

Oak Brook Fire Dept. paramedics were recognized for their treatment of a 52-year-old man who was having a heart attack at work.

Elmhurst Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has awarded its “Run of the Month” for the months of May and June 2016 to the Oak Brook and Westchester Fire Departments, respectively.

The May honor is for Oak Brook Fire Department Station 94 paramedics Jeff Kushner, Jake Arzer, Dave Kaczmarczyk, Sean Kelly, Dan Meyers, Marc Johnson, Mark Guerrieri, Dani Ryan, Samantha Prang and Kevin Fleege. The crew was recognized for their treatment of a 52-year-old man who was having a heart attack at his place of work.

The June award was presented to Westchester Fire Department paramedics Matthew Heiderman and Matthew LeMay for their care of a 69-year-old female who was suspected of having a stroke.

In the “Run of the Month” program, Elmhurst Hospital’s EMS Team reviews ambulance runs by pre-hospital providers and selects one to be recognized based on the following criteria:

--Excellent communication from the field that resulted in the timely delivery of pertinent clinical information to the Edward Emergency Department staff

--Clear and thorough documentation

--Superior clinical assessment skills that resulted in accurate recognition of a clinical situation

--Behavior exceeding the call of duty in the field
