Paintball Guns At York, Drugs: Elmhurst Cops
High school finds two paintball guns on a student, police say.
ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving paintball guns at York High School, drugs, someone flashing a handgun, ammunition found on a patio, a homeless woman, stolen bicycles and threatening message. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Paintball guns at York
- York High School, 355 St. Charles, Road, told police Thursday that two paintball guns were found in a student's backpack. The student said he brought the paintball guns to school to show a friend after the school day. The student's parents were notified. The case will be referred to the peer jury program.

- Nicholas Catalano, 32, of Villa Park, was arrested about 7 p.m. Friday on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, resisting a police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, an officer spoke to Catalano after seeing him drop a small baggie. Catalano then ran away and tried to discard a bag containing a controlled substance, police said.
- Anthony Genco, 24, of Chicago, was arrested shortly before midnight Saturday in the 300 block of East St. Charles on charges of possession of a controlled substance, attempted fleeing and eluding, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, speeding and possession of marijuana by a driver. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, Gengo fled from a police officer when he was stopped for speeding, then he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
Flashing gun
- A driver near Route 83 and North Avenue on Saturday afternoon told police a car pulled alongside her and someone inside flashed what appeared to be a handgun. The driver then sped east on Interstate 290. Officers could not find the car. The case is pending an investigation.

- A resident in the 700 block of Killarney Court told police that when she arrived home from work Wednesday, she found what appeared to be a spent round of ammunition on her back patio. She did not report anything else suspicious. The officer placed the spent round into evidence.
Homeless woman
- A homeless woman showed up Friday at the police station, 125 E. First St., and said she was unable to find a place to stay. An officer was able to make temporary housing arrangements for the victim through a social services organization. The police took her to the place.
Bicycles stolen
- Two bicycles were stolen at 9 p.m. Saturday while they were left unattended in a driveway in the 700 block of Cambridge Avenue. The first bike is a black and green Haro, while the second one is a blue Giant. The victim's video surveillance recorded suspects removing the bikes from the driveway.
- A blue Schwinn bicycle was stolen overnight Saturday in a driveway in the 700 block of Poplar Avenue.
Threatening message
- A resident in the 900 block of Hillcrest Avenue told police Thursday that she received a threatening text message from someone she knew. The officer contacted the suspect, who denied sending any messages. The victim did not wish to pursue charges.
Suspicious letter
- A suspicious letter was believed to have been addressed to an employee of Aligned Modern Health, 134 N. York St., on Saturday. The employee said she did not know the person, but has been receiving social media messages from him over the last few weeks. An investigation is pending.
DUI
- Daniel Rivera, 27, of Chicago, was arrested about 9 p.m. Friday at Lake and York on charges of aggravated DUI, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to wear a seat belt, possession of marijuana by a driver and possession of fireworks. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
- LC Rankin, 36, of Calumet City, was arrested about 8 p.m. Saturday at Grand and Lake on two warrants and charges of DUI, obstructing identification, improper parking in the roadway and open alcohol in a motor vehicle. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, Rankin provided a fall name and date of birth.
Driving violations
- Guillermo Vega, 49, of Elmhurst, was cited about 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Willow on a charge of driving with a suspended license. He was released on bond.
- Nadra Robinson, 23, of Bellwood, was cited about 11 p.m. Thursday at North and Willow on charges of driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana by a driver and disobeying a traffic control device. She was released on bond.
Warrants
- Jasmine Taylor, 28, of Monee, was arrested about 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill, on a warrant. She was released on bond.
- Santos Cardona, 44, of Bensenville, was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of South York on a DuPage County Sheriff's Office warrant and a charge of obstructing identification. He was released on bond. According to a police report, officers responded to a report that someone had been stabbed. Cardona admitted to officers he was not stabbed, but had pulled out an IV. He provided officers with a false name and date of birth, according to the report.
