Partier's Purse Stolen In Elmhurst: Cops

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance in a local neighborhood.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a stolen purse, a domestic disturbance, a retail theft, a house burglary, a driveway fall and a computer scam. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Stolen purse

  • About 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a woman attending a party at Clarion Inn, 933 Riverside Drive, set her purse down while sitting on the stairs before entering her room. When she returned to her room, she realized she left her purse on the stairs. She returned and found it gone. The woman and hotel staff confirmed a suspect had taken the purse, which was later turned in to the police station.

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 5 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of South Kenilworth Avenue. A woman told officers that after trying to strike the suspect, the suspect pushed her away, causing her to fall. Police could see no visible injuries. Both people agreed to separate for the night.

Retail theft

  • A woman tried to leave Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St., about 3 p.m. Saturday with a cart full of laundry detergent, Red Bull and a laundry basket without paying for the items. A store employee confronted the woman and recovered the stolen items. The woman drove away in a black Ford Focus, last seen headed east on Elmhurst Avenue. An investigation is pending. The woman was described as 35 to 45 years old, having long red or auburn hair, and wearing a dark gray or black sweatshirt and black leggings.

House burglary

  • A house in the 500 block of North Oaklawn was burglarized during the week before Sunday. Officers discovered forced entry to the front door. An investigation is pending.

Fall in driveway

  • An officer helped medics with a person who had fallen in a driveway about 4 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Melrose. The person suffered injuries and was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Computer scam

  • A resident in the 100 block of East Park Avenue told police Sunday that she received a notification on her computer that it was compromised and that she needed to contact a representative. On instructions from the representative, she withdrew money and mailed it to an address in California. An investigation is pending.

Gun turned in

  • A resident in the 400 block of Ridgeland Avenue on Saturday turned in a gun and ammunition to the police station. They were placed in evidence for destruction.
