Pedestrian Struck By Train In Elmhurst: Authorities
In another case, a resident was scammed out of money because of an inheritance scam, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving a pedestrian-train collision, scams, a person down, trespassing, theft, an abandoned gas tank, a fugitive driver and retail theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Pedestrian-train collision
- A pedestrian was struck by a train about 5 p.m. Sunday at the railroad tracks and York Street. Metra police are investigating. Authorities have not reported on the pedestrian's condition.

- A resident in the 600 block of West Crockett told police Thursday that he met a woman on Facebook and that he was asked to pay a shipping fee to get her inheritance from overseas. Over three months, the resident sent the woman money. An investigation is pending.
- A resident in the 500 block of West Fay Avenue told police that he tried to buy a used car online, sending eBay gift cards to the seller. When the seller sought more money for insurance purposes, the resident realized he had been scammed. An investigation is pending.
Person down
- Officers and medics responded about 1 p.m. Friday to the 300 block of West Kimbell Avenue for the report of a person down. The person was found unconscious and breathing. Medics took the person to the hospital.

- A resident in the 200 block of North Glade told police that an unknown Amazon delivery driver dropped off an expected package and then appeared to reach and try to open the front door of the porch. The incident was about 5:30 a.m. Thursday. An investigation is pending.
Trespassing
- A person was sleeping about 10:30 p.m. Thursday at The Flynn Elmhurst apartment complex, 183 N. Addison Ave. An officer gave the person a no-trespass notice.
- CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave., called police about 4 a.m. Friday about a woman sleeping in the restroom for hours. The woman said she has been staying there for a few hours each night for several weeks. The woman was given a no-trespass notice.
Theft
- A woman told police that she accidentally had left her wallet inside a shopping basket about 9:30 a.m. Friday at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive. When she returned shortly after, it was gone. Video showed a man picking up the basket before the woman returned to the store. The man was described as white, 6 feet, thin, and wearing glasses, a dark puffy coat and gray pants. An investigation is pending.
Abandoned gas tank
- A person found a gas tank about 7 p.m. Friday in the middle of the road in the 100 block of South Hawthorne Avenue. The tank was taken to the city's public works department, so the city could dispose of the gasoline properly.
Fugitive driver
- An officer tried to stop the driver of a car with improper lighting shortly before midnight Friday at Oak and North. The driver sped away, last seen heading south on Route 83.
Retail theft
- A woman stole a basket full of clothing about 9 p.m. Friday at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. She ran out of the store and left in a silver sedan. An investigation is pending.
DUI
- Police stopped a driver suspected of DUI shortly after midnight Thursday at Cedar and Adams. The person was released without charges, pending lab results.
