Phone Harassment Arrest, Theft: Elmhurst Cops
A man was charged after leaving 13 voicemails with a resident, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving phone harassment, retail theft, a stolen car, a break-in at a business, fraud and damage. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Phone harassment
- A 70-year-old man from Elk Grove Village was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue on a charge of harassment by telephone. Police said the man left a resident 13 voicemails between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. He has been arrested before related to contacting the resident. The resident was told how to get an order of protection against the man. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
Retail theft

- A woman stole a bottle of liquor about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jewel, 944 S. York St. She entered a red SUV and was last seen headed north on York. She was described as Hispanic, 20 to 25 years old, having brown hair with two ponytails, and wearing a blue and white shirt, dark pants, and a black or gray backpack with black and white stripes on the straps. An investigation is pending.
Stolen car
- After a report of a black Toyota Camry stolen in Northlake, Elmhurst police found the vehicle headed west on Interstate 290 about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. Five of the six occupants were turned over to Northlake police.

- Someone tried to enter GoExceed, 655 W. Grand Ave., about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday with a cutting device through the overhead door. The person did not enter, and nothing was reported stolen. An investigation is pending.
Fraud
- A resident in the 800 block of North Howard Avenue sent money Sept. 9 through PayPal to buy a product posted by the suspect on the OfferUp website. The resident later discovered the posting was fraudulent.
- A resident in the 700 block of South Swain told police Wednesday that someone attempted to buy three cars in the resident's name. The resident suffered no monetary loss because the credit applications were denied. An investigation is pending.
Damage
- The front and rear wipers of a car were damaged between 5:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Fellows Court. An investigation is pending.
Theft
- A catalytic converter was stolen between 5 p.m. Tuesday and noon Wednesday from a car at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. An investigation is pending.
Drugs
- Juan Naja, 40, of Melrose Park, was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Monday at York Street and Third Avenue on charges of marijuana possession with intent to distribute, possession of more than 4 pounds of marijuana, no valid driver's license, expired registration and driving with no insurance. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
- A 36-year-old man from Chicago was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at Interstate 290 and North Avenue on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, speeding, driving with no insurance, improper passing of an emergency vehicle and driving with a suspended license. During the same stop, a 37-year-old woman from Chicago was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance. They were released.
