Pink Elephant Resale Shop to close June 29

The shop, originally operated by the Guild of Elmhurst Hospital, opened in the 1980s in a location on Addison Street in Elmhurst.

After a long history, the Pink Elephant Resale Shop, located at 121 W. 1st St. in Elmhurst will close its doors on Saturday, June 29.

The shop, originally operated by the Guild of Elmhurst Hospital, opened in the 1980s in a location on Addison Street in Elmhurst. After a fire in that location, the shop reopened in downtown Elmhurst in 1992. Since 2013, when Elmhurst Hospital and Edward Hospital merged to create Edward-Elmhurst Health, the shop has been run by the Volunteer Services Department.

“This is a difficult decision, but as healthcare continues to become more and more complex, it is essential for the organization to focus on our core business – taking care of patients and their families,” says Mary Lou Mastro, System CEO, Edward-Elmhurst Health. “We’re very grateful for our generous and talented volunteers. They have been essential in making the Pink Elephant so successful over the years.”
