Pit Bull Attack, Uninvited Guests: Elmhurst Cops

A resident was cited after a dog bit a worker trimming trees for ComEd, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a pit bull attack, uninvited guests, disturbances, retail theft, guns turned in and a skunk. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Pit bull attack

  • A man trimming trees for ComEd in the backyards of houses Wednesday in the 200 block of North Geneva was attacked by a pit bull who bit him in the leg, leaving a puncture wound. The dog's owner, Brett Rasmussen, 42, of Elmhurst, was cited on a charge of not being updated on the dog's rabies vaccination. DuPage County Animal Control was told about the incident.

Uninvited guests

  • A resident in the 400 block of South Mitchell Avenue told police Monday that he believes a suspect is entering his home uninvited when he is not home. He based this belief on previous incidents. Nothing was reported missing.
  • A resident told police Tuesday about buying a house March 30 in the 600 block of South Sunnyside Avenue. Since that date, a suspect has entered the house without the resident's consent to retrieve mail addressed to the suspect. The victim does not want to pursue charges.

Disturbances

  • A disturbance happened about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. Officers learned the acquaintances of a patient got into a fight. The parties had conflicting stories. No charges were filed.
  • A verbal domestic disturbance happened about 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of South Spring Road. Both parties agreed to separate for the evening.

Retail theft

  • A man stole various colognes and perfumes and left without paying for them about 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. He ran away east on St. Charles Road. The man was described as black, 20 to 25 years old, and having facial hair and tattoos.

Gas thefts

  • Superior Ambulance, 395 W. Lake St., told police Monday that a few fleet gas cards went missing between March 16 and March 29. A number of purchases were made using the gas cards and the suspects' personal identification numbers. An investigation is pending.

Converter stolen

  • A catalytic converter on a Ford F-350 work truck was stolen between Friday and Monday at Feze Roofing, 275 N. West Av.

Windshield shattered

  • A woman told police she was driving about 9 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of North Oak Street when an unknown object struck her windshield, causing it to shatter. The cause was not determined.

Guns turned in

  • A woman on Monday turned in two guns to the police department that she wanted to have destroyed. She found the weapons in her mother's house in the 300 block of South Cottage Hill Avenue. Her mother recently died.
  • A woman found a pistol that belonged to her deceased father, who lived in the 200 block of West Fremont Avenue. She turned in the gun to the police Wednesday.

Damage

  • Someone spray-painted the south wall of an attached garage between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of North Walnut Street.

Disorderly conduct

  • Police received a report of a disorderly person about 5 a.m. Tuesday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. Officers learned the person was reported missing in Chicago. Chicago police were notified.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 100 block of North Berteau Avenue told police Tuesday that someone used the resident's personal information to open a charge account at Target. The resident learned that several credit inquiries about the victim were made by various businesses.

Suspicious

  • Police are investigating an incident involving suspicious circumstances that happened about 11 a.m. Tuesday at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road.

Skunk euthanized

  • A skunk was euthanized and removed about 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of South Mitchell.

Warrants

  • Jace Kelm, 25, of Bensenville, was arrested about 2 p.m. Tuesday at York and North End on warrants. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Driving violations

  • Agustin Oscoria, 23, of Chicago, was cited about 7 p.m. Tuesday at North and Villa on charges of driving with a suspended license and expired registration. He was released on bond.
  • Mitchell Holmes, 21, of Elmhurst, was cited about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at Butterfield and Poplar on charges of driving with a suspended license, marijuana possession by a driver, driving an uninsured vehicle and no seat belt. He was released on bond.
  • Antoni Figueroa, 20, of Elmhurst, was cited about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at York and Fullerton on charges of no valid driver's license and disobeying a stop sign. He was released on bond.
