Porch Piracy, Scooter Theft: Elmhurst Cops

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving porch piracy, the theft of a scooter, a dog bite, a fireworks violation, trespassing, harassment of a store's employees and an unconscious person. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Porch piracy

  • One of two packages delivered to a front porch was stolen about 10 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of South Mitchell Avenue. Security footage showed a man carrying an open DoorDash bag taking the package. An investigation is pending.

  • A woman told police that someone stole her electric scooter between 10 p.m. Friday and 1:30 a.m. Saturday at Fitz's Pub, 172 N. Addison Ave. An investigation is pending.

Dog bite

  • A man was walking his dog about 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the 700 block of South Hillside Avenue when another dog left a backyard and bit his dog. A dog bite report was submitted to DuPage County Animal Services. The victim's dog was taken to the veterinarian to check for injuries.

  • A 19-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 100 block of East Lake Street was cited about 11:30 p.m. Saturday near his home on a fireworks possession charge. Police said an officer saw five men and a white garbage bag containing fireworks. The 19-year-old admitted the fireworks belonged to him and that he set them off. He was released.

Trespassing

  • A person was served with a no-trespass notice about 4:30 p.m. Friday at Larry Roesch Auto Group, 150 W. Grand Ave.

Release violation

  • A person was believed to have violated a pretrial release condition for domestic battery between June 28 and July 5 on Elm Creek Drive. An investigation is pending.

Harassing employees

  • A man harassing employees refused to leave about 7 a.m. Saturday at 7-Eleven, 155 E. First St. Officers found the man and issued him a no-trespass notice.

Unconscious

  • An unconscious person was found shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday inside the bathroom at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive. The drunk person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Fugitive driver

  • About 5 a.m. Sunday at North and Berteau avenues, an officer spotted a silver Toyota Corolla that was suspected in a fleeing and eluding case. When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver fled north on Route 83.

DUI

  • A 40-year-old Des Plaines man was arrested about 1 a.m. Friday at North Avenue and Route 83 on charges of DUI, no valid driver's license, improper lane usage, driving an uninsured car, illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Police said the man ignored emergency lights and sirens, prompting officers to end their pursuit. The man was later found in Villa Park. He was taken to the Elmhurst police station and released.
  • A 24-year-old Mount Prospect man was arrested about 5:30 a.m. Sunday at North Avenue and Interstate 290 on charges of DUI, driving on the wrong side of the road and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was taken to the police station and released.

Warrants

  • A 27-year-old Elmhurst woman who lives in the 400 block of East St. Charles Road was arrested about 6 p.m. Sunday at her home on a Will County warrant. She was arrested after officers conducted a well-being check. She was released.
  • A 21-year-old Lombard woman was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Friday at the police station on two DuPage County Sheriff's Office warrants. The woman turned herself in. She was released.
