Purse-Snatching In Downtown Elmhurst: Police

The suspect was found in a nearby building a block away, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – A woman was walking in downtown Elmhurst on Sunday when a man snatched her purse and ran away, police said.

Willie Ranson, 39, of Chicago, was arrested on a felony robbery charge, police said.

The incident was reported about 8 p.m. at York and Schiller streets, an area that often sees many pedestrians.

Responding officers set up a perimeter and saw an open door a block away at the Duly Health Care building, 135 N. Addison Ave., where they found the victim's purse and Ranson inside, police said.

Ransom was taken to the DuPage County Jail, where he remained Monday afternoon, according to jail records.
