Repo Issue, Thrown Pillow: Elmhurst Cops

Officers stopped a person from repossessing a truck because the person had no license, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving repossession, battery, theft, criminal damage, DUI, fraud and burglary. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Repossession

  • An officer saw someone try to open the door of a truck about 1 p.m. Wednesday at Super Ego Holding, a trucking company at 677 N. Larch Ave. The suspect was trying to repossess the victim's truck, but did not have the proper licensing. The person was stopped from removing the truck because of the licensing issue.

Battery

  • A man told police that a person threw a pillow at him as he left a room about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. No charges were filed because of conflicting stories and no reported injuries.

Theft

  • A We Care Recycling donation bin was stolen on June 28 or June 29 from near American Music World, 605 N. York St.
  • A man told police that he left his iPhone 13 on the counter after ordering food about 2 p.m. Monday at KFC, 872 N. York St. Surveillance footage showed another man stole the phone and left the restaurant. An investigation is pending.
  • A laptop was stolen March 8 from an office at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. The theft was reported Monday.

Criminal damage

  • A 42-year-old La Grange Park man was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of West Butterfield Road on a criminal damage charge. Police said they were called about a domestic disturbance and found that the man damaged the victim's door. He was released.

Obstructing officer

  • A 33-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Route 83 and St. Charles Road on charges of obstructing a police officer, driving a revoked license, failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving an uninsured car, possessing marijuana and having no valid registration. He was released.

DUI

  • A 33-year-old Bellwood man was arrested about 1 a.m. Thursday at North and Oaklawn avenues on charges of DUI, no valid driver's license and improper lane usage. He was taken to the police station and released.
  • A 45-year-old Bellwood woman was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Thursday at Roosevelt Road and Interstate 294 on charges of DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol and improper lane usage. She was taken to the police station and released.
  • A 28-year-old Elk Grove Village man was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Thursday at Route 83 and St. Charles Road on charges of DUI, no valid driver's license, improper lane usage, driving an uninsured car and illegal transportation of alcohol. He was taken to the police station and released.

Fraud

  • A woman in the 300 block of East Schiller Street bought two tickets to the U.S. Open tennis tournament on Facebook Marketplace. But she never received the tickets. The tournament starts Aug. 26.

Burglary

  • Items were stolen from a garage on June 27 or June 28 in the 600 block of West Lorraine Avenue.

Retail theft

  • A man concealed merchandise in his pocket and waistband shortly before noon Monday at Goodwill Store, 675 W. North Ave. A person approached the man about the theft. He admitted to the crime and left. An investigation is pending. The man was described as Hispanic with black hair, 5-foot-7, and wearing a gray T-shirt and jeans.

Fugitive driver

  • An officer tried to stop a dark car about 11 p.m. Wednesday at York Street and Crescent Avenue for having no front plate and unknown rear registration. The driver sped away.

Found

  • Police found a children's backpack containing children's books, two phone chargers and notebooks after responding to an alarm call shortly before midnight Tuesday in the 800 block of North Wilson Street. An investigation is pending.
