Restaurant Dispute, Dealership Theft: Elmhurst Police

A customer at a local eatery refused to pay a bill, so police were called, report says.

ELMHURST, IL — In recent days, Elmhurst police have handled a number of cases, including a restaurant customer refusing to pay, a dealership theft, counterfeit bills, a bicycle fall, a fugitive driver and a knocked-down pole. Here is information from the latest reports:

Refused to pay

  • A customer refused to pay a bill at 11 a.m. Thursday at Buffalo Wild Wings, 149 N. York St. The restaurant did not seek to press charges, but wanted the person served with a no-trespass notice. The person was found, told not to return to the restaurant and given the notice.

  • A silver Chrysler minivan entered the rear lot of My Choice Motors, 530 W. Grand Ave., about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. Two men used a rolling jack and reciprocating saw to remove a catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius and a Ford Explorer.

Counterfeit bills

  • A woman attempted to buy groceries with a counterfeit $100 bill about 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Mariano’s, 678 N. York St. The customer told police she was unaware the bill was not real and provided an officer with four additional counterfeit $100 bills. The store did not wish to pursue charges. The counterfeit bills were placed into evidence for destruction.

Bicycle fall

  • A man told police that he rode his bicycle up a slight incline in the sidewalk and flipped over the handlebars about 9 p.m. Thursday at Second and Addison. He struck the ground and suffered a cut to his chin. He refused medical treatment. He had just left Elmhurst Brewing Co., 171 N. Addison.

Fugitive driver

  • An officer tried to stop a speeding car about 10 p.m. Thursday at St. Charles and Interstate 290. The driver sped up and headed east on the expressway.

Pole knocked down

  • A forklift operator at a construction site in the 500 block of Hawthorne Avenue knocked down a light pole with a load of lumber about 7:30 a.m. Friday. The operator provided the insurance policy number, and the city was notified.
