Restaurant Theft, Disturbances: Elmhurst Cops

An eatery reported theft occurring over several months, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving theft at a restaurant, disturbances, catalytic converter thefts, a child on a motorized vehicle and a smoke bomb, among others. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Restaurant theft

  • An apparently ongoing theft occurred between Jan. 31 and May 2 at Chick-Fil-A, 235 S. Route 83. The crimes were reported Friday. No other information was available.

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of Albert Street. No arrests were made because of conflicting statements.
  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of West Fremont. A man said he got into an argument with a younger household member. No one was injured. The parties agreed to separate for the evening.

Converter thefts

  • A catalytic converter was stolen from a 2003 Honda Odyssey between June 7 and June 9 in the 200 block of East Fremont Avenue. It was parked in a lot at an apartment complex.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen from a work van overnight Wednesday at Elm Crest Apartments, 140 E. Lake St.
  • A suspect was seen with tools underneath an Acura about 1 p.m. Friday at Whole Foods Market, 215 S. Route 83. The man then left the area. The car's catalytic converter was stolen. An investigation is pending.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen overnight Thursday from a 2005 Toyota Prius in the parking lot at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road.

  • A small child was seen attempting to cross the street in a motorized vehicle about 1 p.m. Friday at St. Charles and Poplar. An officer found the child, whose parent arrived and said the child must have wandered off while driving his toy jeep.

Damage

  • A plastic boulder was damaged Thursday or Friday at Pioneer Park, 517 S. Mitchell Ave. The boulder was attached to playground equipment.

Smoke bomb

  • A smoke bomb was set off about 6 p.m. Friday in the southeast elevator at the parking deck at 175 W. First St. Firefighters were able to vent out the smoke. A week earlier, a similar incident occurred at the Addison Avenue parking deck.

Found property

  • A purple Murray Antares bicycle was found abandoned about 7:30 a.m. Thursday at 197 E. Butterfield Road, near ATI Physical Therapy. The bike was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
  • A gray Apple iPhone was found Saturday on the front lawn of the house at 423 W. Butterfield Road. The phone was placed into evidence for safekeeping.

Theft

  • A man stole a brown accordion-style folder about 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Road. The man was described as Hispanic, in his early 20s, heavyset, having a mustache, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with white lettering on both the front and back, black shorts and white gym shoes.

Disorderly conduct

  • An incident of disorderly conduct is under investigation at 363 W. Commonwealth Lane. An incident occurred at 8 p.m. Saturday.
  • Police received a report of youths throwing things about 4 p.m. Saturday over the top of the Addison Avenue parking deck, 149 N. Addison Ave. Officers did not find the youths, but discovered several burnt matches in a pile, a vape pen and several sample-size liquor bottles.

Fugitive driver

  • About 12:30 a.m. Friday in the 800 block of South Washington Street, an officer saw a car that was reported to have been stolen in Johnsburg. The officer tried to stop the car, which sped away, last seen heading east on Butterfield Road. In an investigation, the driver was found to have broken into four cars in the 800 and 900 blocks of Washington. A further investigation is pending.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the Elm Creek Apartments on Elm Creek Drive placed two online orders with Ulta Beauty and received confirmation of the delivery. When she tried to retrieve the packages, they were missing. An investigation is pending. The theft was reported Thursday.
