Retails Thefts At 4 Elmhurst Stores: Cops
In another case, a man continues to bother a woman, despite orders not to do so, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving retail theft, trespassing, check fraud, a domestic disturbance, an attempted burglary, a violation of a court order and harassment. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Retail theft
- Two men stole items from several At Home stores, including the one at 265 S. Route 83 in Elmhurst. They then returned the items to several different locations. On Thursday at the Elmhurst store, the first suspect returned a dining chair that was stolen from the Aurora store earlier in the day. The second suspect entered the Elmhurst store with an empty chair box and stuffed it with numerous bedding sheets and left the store. The sheets were later returned to the Downers Grove store. The first suspect was described as black, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, 20 to 25 years old, and wearing a white baseball hat with black lettering, a blue short-sleeve shirt with a Nike logo, gray jeans and white gym shoes. The second one was described as black, 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-3, 30 to 35 years old, and wearing a black short-sleeve shirt with a white logo, a Chicago Bears baseball hat with an orange rim, and black and white gym shoes.
- A man asked for a carton of Newport cigarettes about 3:30 a.m. Sunday at Thornton's, 476 N. York St. When the clerk turned his back, the man grabbed the cigarettes and ran away. He entered a gray muscle car and left north on York. The man was described as black, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, 20 to 30 years old and having a beard.
- A man stole merchandise about 6:30 a.m. Sunday at Thornton's, 476 N. York St. He left in a red Nissan Rogue. He was described as black, 50, and wearing a gray Cubs shirt and blue jeans. About 10:30 a.m., the suspect was seen in his car at Jewel, 944 S. York St. An officer tried to stop him, but the driver sped away. Police said the man stole merchandise at Jewel just before fleeing.
- A man stole liquor about 5 p.m. Saturday at Mariano's, 678 N. York St. He left in a red Chevrolet Traverse, last seen heading north on York. An investigation is pending.

- A suspicious incident occurred about 3 a.m. Thursday at Greencastle of Elmhurst senior living community. A man entered a woman's car. The suspect told police he entered her car to leave her food and a note. The man has been told three times before not to have contact with the woman. A warrant was obtained for the suspect.
Check fraud
- DM Merchandising, 835 N. Church, told police Thursday that someone intercepted a mailed check and cashed it. An investigation is pending.
Domestic disturbance

- A woman reported that her daughter and her boyfriend were arguing about 11 a.m. Thursday in the 200 block of East North End. The boyfriend damaged property. There was no physical contact. No one wanted to sign any complaints. The boyfriend was given a no-trespassing notice.
Theft
- Five chainsaws and a backpack blower were stolen from a Dawson's Tree Service truck between 2 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of East Columbia.
Attempted burglary
- A driver's side window of a parked van was broken between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Michigan and Elmhurst. The doors were locked, and nothing was missing.
Violation of court order
- A resident in the 600 block of West Fay Avenue told police that a person was banging on the front door of the house about 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The suspect was no longer there when officers arrived. By a DuPage judge's order, the suspect is not allowed at the address. A report is set to be forwarded to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
Harassment
- A resident in the 500 block of South Cedar Avenue told police Thursday that his son received a text message from a stranger asking personal questions and photos of himself. A message was left for the suspect to contact the police station.
BB shooting
- Someone shattered a window by shooting a BB gun about 9:30 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of South Parkside Avenue. An investigation is pending.
Drunk person
- Officers responded to a report of a drunk person about 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Palmer and York. The person was lying on the ground unable to speak. Medics took the person to the hospital.
