A well-dressed man sold jewelry to a driver, then followed her, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – A woman who stopped to help a driver on the side of the road last week in Elmhurst turned out to be a victim herself, police said.

About 6 p.m. Thursday, the woman pulled her car next to a gray BMW SUV near York Street and Interstate 290, according to a police report. A man approached her and tried to sell jewelry. She paid for a large gold chain and two rings, police said.

The woman then drove away, but the man followed her to a parking lot, where he asked for more money, police said. She did not give any more. The suspect left. The crime was listed as theft by deception.
