Save the Date for 'An Afternoon in the Garden'

You don't have to travel far to stop and smell the roses this summer.

Score your tickets to the Elmhurst Garden Walk and Faire set for Sunday, July 10, and relish the beauty your community has to offer. The stroll kicks off at 10 a.m. and wraps up at 3 p.m., with a Wilder Park "Faire" set to follow. Advanced tickets are $15.

The event shines a spotlight on seven Elmhurst homeowners who maintain impressive gardens ranging in style and in size; some are modest, others marked with grandeur. The Wilder Park event will feature vendors peddling perennials and one-of-a-kind garden accessories.

"The passion these homeowners bring to their gardens is evident throughout the landscapes," noted a member of the hosting group, The Elmhurst Garden Club.

The majority of the garden walk's proceeds will go to the Mildred Hartney College Scholarship Fund, though some community horticulture, education and conservation projects will also benefit.

Established in 1926, The Elmhurst Garden Club seeks to, "Encourage the advancement and stimulate an interest in horticulture through education" as well as, "provide an outlet for creative expression and encourage the development of home grounds and civic beautification," according to its website. The group awards scholarships to aid in environmental protection, further horticulture education and facilitate conservation and landscape design.
