Sex Offender At Depot, DUI: Elmhurst Cops

A drunk person was found to be registered as a sex offender in another state, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a sex offender, a DUI, disorderly conduct, burglary of an unlocked van, fraud and check fraud, among other incidents. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Sex offender found

  • Officers responded about 11 a.m. Friday to a report of a suspicious person at the train depot, 128 W. First St. The suspect was lying on a bench. He was found to be a registered sex offender from Florida. He was highly intoxicated and needed medical attention. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

DUI

  • Leonel G. Alcantar, 29, of Chicago, was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Grand and Old Grand avenues on charges of DUI, having no valid driver's license and illegally transporting alcohol. He was released on bond.

Disorderly conduct

  • Heather Gloria Griffith, 23, of Villa Park, was cited about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of West Avery Street on a charge of disorderly conduct. Police said she ran behind homes. She was taken to the hospital. She was released on bond.

Burglary of van

  • Someone entered an unlocked van and stole credit cards and money about 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the 200 block of North Walnut Avenue. Several credit cards were used, but the transactions were declined.

Fraud

  • Sole House, 569 N. York St., told police Thursday that it paid a suspect to install a new business sign on Sept. 17. The suspect cashed the check, but never installed the sign. The business has not heard from the suspect and has no way to reach him.

Converter stolen

  • A catalytic converter was stolen from a car between 9 a.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road.

Check fraud

  • A resident in the 600 block of South Swain Avenue told police Friday that someone fraudulently deposited two checks in the resident's name through Chase Bank. An investigation is pending.

Sidewalk fall

  • A woman fell on the sidewalk Friday in the 200 block of Linden Avenue, cutting her face and breaking her nose and one of her teeth. She went to Elmhurst Hospital.
