Spirito Singers- A Sense of Belonging Through Music

Choirs bring singers together with a sense of purpose, belonging and feeling connected.

“Spirito lets you come and be free to do what you love. I look forward to rehearsals every week because it’s my safe place. I leave my worries at the door, make music, and feel peaceful.”

When people sing together in a choir, they feel connected. This feeling of belonging has never been more important than during the past 2+ years of Covid.

Spirito Singers maintained weekly live rehearsals during most of the pandemic which helped many singers cope with the isolation of remote learning.

“Even though we sang with masks on, it felt so good to be with friends, singing, laughing and sharing,” said one high school Bravura singer. “Rehearsals are the favorite part of my week,” stated a 7th grade Ragazze singer. “I can be with friends, doing something I love. Singing is comforting for me.”

Spirito Singers is a treble choir for singers entering 5th – 12th grades. Weekly rehearsals take place in Oak Brook and Elmhurst locations. The organization draws singers from over 50 schools in the western suburbs. This allows singers to make meaningful friendships beyond their school and neighborhood, while elevating their music education and experience.

Spirito is also proud to include an ensemble for men, many of whom are dads of singers. This opportunity for a shared experience between father and daughter makes Spirito truly unique.

Spirito is looking ahead and making plans for the upcoming season. The 22-23 Season will bring collaborations with youth and college choirs, new service and performance opportunities including singing the National Anthem at a White Sox game, electives in conducting, a cappella singing and songwriting, teamwork between the three ensembles and that ever important chance to belong to a community of people who love to sing.

Remote auditions are being held now for the upcoming season. Group auditions are scheduled for August. Auditions are relaxed with no prepared piece needed.
